Mountain Biking
Consistently rated as one of the best areas for mountain biking in the nation for the last 20 years- Jim Thorpe does not disappoint. There are miles of beginner, intermediate and expert trails over varied terrain through the area. You'll bring back macho stories of run in's with nasty copperheads, rattlesnakes, bears, and flipping over your handle bars after miscalculating the size of that damn fallen tree you tried to ride over. After having to drag your bloodied body towards town- you can at least look forward to a few cold ones at Molly Maguire's Pub located right here at The Inn, before getting up the next day for round 2.
Tom at Blue Mountain Sports has a few stories to tell. He's also got the trail maps and gear for days of challenging riding.
Road Biking
Hills? Yep- we got 'em! Are you ready? Enjoy an early morning ride through the scenic farmlands of Mahoning Valley on lightly traveled roads. Or conquer the Route 903 hill and venture into the Pocono's or around beautiful Beltsville State Park. Remember to be back before 10 am for a hearty buffet breakfast in our dining room. Talk to Dave, the Innkeeper about different rides.

Glen Onoko Falls

This is a must see for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. After taking a steep, rugged but short hike-you'll be rewarded with this breathtaking series of water falls that cascade down the mountain and empties into the Lehigh. Some rate it as among the ten best waterfalls in the United States. Glen Onoko Falls begins as a mountain spring. The water is a cool 55 degrees even in summer. The water gushes from the top of the mountain and forms a stream that varies between 10 and 20 feet in width. As the water surges down the mountain, it drops over several waterfalls. The largest drop is about 75 feet. The falls are deep into the forest and provide a private spot for wading or picnicking. Be sure to bring you camera!
Train Rides
Bring the entire family for a spectacular one-hour train ride into the beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park. From the comfort of an historic 1920's era open window coaches, you can witness the grand sights available only by train. Mountain vistas, trackside streams and flowing rivers, and fellow adventurers enjoying hiking, biking and white water rafting are just a few of the visual delights waiting for you on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway. |

Fun on the Lehigh River
The spectacular Lehigh River provides miles of fun for rafters, fisherman and kayakers alike. A twisting, turning river with massive cliffs on either side- it really is gorgeous. You feel like you are in a whole different world down on the Lehigh. That's the point of visiting Jim Thorpe isn't it? So come on in -the water's fine!
White Water Rafting

Fun Family Rafting
We can't think of a better way to relax on a hot, steamy summer afternoon than taking a fun trip down the lower section of the Lehigh. A great family day. These trips run through the summer when the average water temperature hovers between 75 and 80 degrees. Pocono Whitewater, Jim Thorpe River Adventure an Whitewater Rafting Adventures once again provide the fun. One word of advice: Bring a water gun- you'll need it!
Kayaking
Avid kayakers have known about the Lehigh's great kayaking for years. No experience? No problem. Talk to Jerry -one of the coolest and experienced instructors anywhere- at Northeast Pa Kayak School. He'll teach you the ins and outs of kayaking. Beginner and intermediate classes are right here in Jim Thorpe.
Fishing
A premier trout fishing river, the Lehigh owes part of it's rebirth to the Lehigh River Stocking Association. Expertly guided fly fishing excursions are available at Lehigh Gap Outfitters.
Fun at Mauch Chunk Lake
We would like thank the honorable Mother Nature for indirectly providing us with this pristine 3 1/2 mile long lake. For years, every time we had torrential downpour in town- the Mauch Chunk Creek would flood out Broadway. (You can see evidence of that on a series of photos we have on our walls here at The Inn). Someone (duh) finally had the brilliant idea of damming the creek. Wahl a- instant lake! And what a wonderful lake it is! Great fishing, hiking and biking all around. There's sandy beaches to relax on, and swimming- lifeguards included. Mauch Chunk Lake Park - our well kept secret that we're letting you in on.
Coolest thing to try: Make arrangements with Tom (yep- same Tom at Blue Mountain Sports) to take a kayak out at sunrise onto the lake. Bring you camera. You may catch a glimpse of our resident eagles or a blue herons as you glide through the mirror- like waters.
Dave - the Innkeeper does it every year with his 2 sons. This is his photo from last summer. What a memory!
Horseback Riding
Horse around with your family and friends! Deer Path Riding Stable offers a relaxing and scenic ride through fields and woods full of freshwater springs, mountain laurel, and rhododendron. Gentle horses, friendly, helpful guides and an "easy does it" pace make their rides suitable even for the first time rider.
